Calcium carbide slag is calcium carbide hydrolysis of acetylene gas to calcium hydroxide as the main component of the residue. Acetylene (C2H2) is one of the important raw materials in the basic organic synthesis industry. The production of acetylene with calcium carbide (CaC2) as raw material is simple and mature, and it has a large proportion in China. 1t of calcium carbide with water can generate more than 300 kg of acetylene gas, at the same time generating 10t solid with 12% of industrial waste, commonly known as calcium carbide slurry. The use of carbide slag can replace limestone to produce cement; can be used as lime production calcium carbide raw materials, production of chemical products, production of building materials and for environmental management.

Calcium carbide slurry is gray-brown turbid liquid. It was divided into three parts after clarifying, clarified liquid, solid deposit layer and intermediate colloid transition layer. The ratio of the three layers was reversible with the clarifying time and environmental conditions. Solid deposits is what we often called calcium carbide waste.

Calcium hydroxide is mainly used as a substitute for slaked lime, and is widely used in construction, chemical industry, metallurgy, agriculture and other industries. However, when the water content of calcium carbide waste> 50%, its thick paste and caused trouble for storage, transportation which will give the users inconvenience. Many plants get into trouble also because of its pollution in road during transportation. Therefore, the key to the comprehensive utilization of carbide slag is to water content controlling.
