Kaolin is an important plastic and rubber filler; it is generally believed that product performance depends on the particle size distribution and particle surface area. However, modern scientific research shows that the kaolin powder surface after grinding and crushing processing contain large number of meridians and oxygen-containing functional groups, is acid, calcined kaolin is stronger acid. In addition, kaolin surface area is large, the surface energy is high, resulting in poor compatibility with organic polymer system, so filler material must subjected to surface modification for high polymer-based (such as epoxy resin or vinyl resin) in order to obtain an improved product.

Kaolin used as filler in rubber industry owns wide range of applications, adding into latex mixture can improve the mechanical properties of rubber, improve the mechanical strength of rubber products, but also enhance the wear resistance and chemical stability, extend the hardening time. It was found that the modified kaolin been added into rubber product as filler can improved the other application properties of products.

Kaolin used as filler can improve the mechanical properties of plastic products, also can give the product some special application performance, such as: good electrical insulation, bonding strength, water resistance and so on. Modified kaolin filler made plastic products is with smooth surface, can reduce the thermal cracking and shrinkage, has the advantage of polishing, improve the size of the processing accuracy, chemical resistance and so on.
